Overview
As early-onset gastric and colorectal cancer is becoming more prevalent world-wide, it is important to increase understanding of where this is occurring. This study compares patients with metastatic colorectal cancer and advanced gastric cancer in Japan and the US.
Using de-identified electronic health records from both countries, covering cases diagnosed between 2015 and 2023, the research found that early-onset cancer (diagnosed before 50) was more common in Japan.
Why this Matters
Increased understanding of how different cancers impact different geographical areas is critical to generate robust evidence to inform targeted treatment strategies. Utilizing technology like a trusted research environment, enables cross-country comparison of patients. Further research will explore the generalizability of these findings and the survival outcomes for early-onset patients in Japan and the US.
