Overview
High-quality, recent, and complete oncology real-world data sources are hard to find in Europe and Japan, limiting options for research. Using electronic health records (EHR) composed of both structured and unstructured information (e.g., clinical notes, pathology reports), researchers for this study curated fit-for-purpose EHR-derived datasets to learn from the experience of people with cancer in the UK, Germany, and Japan.
These research-ready data sets were made available for analysis in a trusted research environment in accordance with all local laws and regulations, allowing analysis of multi-national patient-level data.
Why this matters
This research validates a novel approach to combining data from multiple countries and opens the door for treatment comparative-effectiveness research not previously possible. By using a secure and compliant environment, this research demonstrates the feasibility of curating and combining real-world patient-level oncology data across country borders for analysis that include Europe and Japan in addition to existing US data.
