Flatiron Health Expands Technology Partnerships with Oncology Care Model Practices

Flatiron Health today announced expanded partnerships with some of the nation’s largest independent community oncology practices using the first EHR-embedded technology solution for the Center for Medicare & Medicaid Innovation’s (CMMI) Oncology Care Model (OCM). Approximately one-third of all OCM practices use Flatiron’s technology to adapt to the rapidly-changing requirements of value-based care programs for which practices commit to providing enhanced services to patients, such as care coordination, navigation and the use of national treatment guidelines.

Florida Cancer Specialists (FCS) and Tennessee Oncology (TO), two of the nation’s leading community-based oncology care providers, have selected Flatiron as a preferred technology partner to support their practices throughout their participation in the OCM in a continued effort to drive high-quality care for their cancer patients.

With over 200 physicians, FCS is treating over 55 percent of their patient population, or approximately 16,000 cancer patients, in three alternative payment models aimed at providing better patient outcomes and decreasing costs.

“FCS went through a rigorous selection process to ensure that we choose the best technology partners to support our value-based care initiatives. Flatiron continues to position their technology solutions to keep up with the ever-changing oncology care delivery systems that medical oncologists are working to implement today,” said Sarah Cevallos, Chief Revenue Cycle Officer, FCS. “We feel that this expanded partnership will enable us to remain a viable community oncology practice to serve our patients for many years to come.”

FCS and TO have implemented Flatiron’s OCM solutions through OncoEMR®. Each practice has taken advantage of Flatiron’s comprehensive OCM software and services, including:

  • Designated support and user group
  • Real-time quality measure performance dashboards
  • Automated CMMI registry reporting
  • OncoEMR®-embedded OCM patient identification, tracking and MEOS billing

“Tennessee Oncology views the OCM as an opportunity to transform our practice from a volume-based to a value-based orientation,” said Dr. Jeff Patton, CEO at Tennessee Oncology. “Technology and data analytics will be the keys to success and we are thrilled to have partnered with Flatiron to implement their suite of solutions.”

FCS President and Managing Partner Dr. Bill Harwin said, “The OCM encourages greater collaboration, information sharing and care coordination, so that patients continue to receive high-quality care with greater cost efficiency. Working with our partners, such as Flatiron, ensures greater proficiency for our practice and better outcomes for our patients.”

“Flatiron is excited to build upon our partnerships with these preeminent oncology practices embracing this new paradigm of value-based care,” said Dr. Brenton Fargnoli, Medical Director, Value-based Care Initiatives, at Flatiron Health. “We believe an integrated solution at the point of care is the most effective and least disruptive way to successfully transition to value.”
