Amy Pierre, MSN, RN, ANP-BC is a nurse practitioner and Senior Clinical Director at Flatiron Health and has spent more than a decade developing research products and caring for patients with multiple myeloma and lymphoma. She sat down to discuss how Flatiron’s real-world evidence is powering high impact research at ASH 2026.

What is Flatiron Health presenting at ASH this year?

Flatiron is presenting 13 accepted abstracts that arrive at a pivotal moment in modern hematology care. In recent years, we’ve witnessed remarkable breakthroughs in hematologic diseases with next-generation immunotherapies, precision-targeted therapies, and ultra-sensitive approaches to disease monitoring. That progress has raised questions that clinical trials weren’t designed to answer, and Flatiron’s ASH research helps fill those gaps. In multiple myeloma, we examined the clinical and socioeconomic characteristics of newly diagnosed patients at hidden high risk, how clinicians use measurable residual disease (MRD) results in treatment decisions, and how many patients actually reach newer immune-based therapies. In B-cell lymphoma, we looked at what happens after CAR T fails and how care looks for rare diseases like primary CNS lymphoma, and in chronic lymphocytic leukemia, we explored therapy choices after patients have had two targeted treatments.

How was Flatiron able to study these complex clinical questions?

Our research is powered by Flatiron’s Panoramic data that includes nearly 600,000 patients with hematologic malignancies. Panoramic data unlocks the scale of Flatiron’s entire patient network, with EHR-derived data extracted and validated using advanced AI and large language models to expand insight into rare subgroups and longitudinal treatment journeys. With comprehensive coverage of MRD testing and CAR T utilization, Panoramic data provides the rich clinical detail necessary for essential insights into hematology treatment and testing patterns, adherence, and outcomes.

What can real-world data reveal about how clinicians make treatment decisions?

Some of our studies use Clinical Decision Insights, an AI-powered solution that extracts insights from deidentified clinician notes for patient cohorts defined in real-world data, to reveal the documented rationale behind clinical decision making, such as why a clinician chose one therapy over another. For researchers, that means going beyond which treatment a patient received to understand the reasoning behind the clinician’s choice – a powerful tool to contextualize treatment patterns and patient outcomes. By analyzing these everyday interactions, researchers can uncover the actual drivers behind medical choices.

Why does this work matter for people with blood cancers?

Real-world evidence is essential in hematology because it captures outcomes of all patients, which is particularly important for the older, frailer blood cancer patients routinely excluded from clinical trials that are commonly diagnosed with these diseases. As treatment for hematology malignancies becomes increasingly personalized, the evidence supporting high stakes decisions has to capture the clinical nuances and biology that shape each patient’s journey. When it does, it can inform better treatment decisions, accelerate the development of new therapies, and ultimately improve outcomes for people with blood cancers.
